Internet Eagle Cams: Get A Front Row View

This story represents precisely what the Internet should be heralded for. It wasn’t invented for porn, or spreading viruses, or Nigerian letter scams, or even, for Twittering. The internet was designed to allow for the exchange of information, and ideas, even in the event of a nuclear catastrophe. The opportunity for millions, even billions, from around the world to watch these amazing, winged predators, raise their young, without disturbing them, and without any travel, sums it all up. The power of the Internet.

bald-eagle-in-nest-callingopenquoteSIDNEY, B.C. – The eagles have landed.  Thousands of people from around the world have been flocking to the website for B.C.-based Hancock Wildlife Foundation to watch live streaming video of three bald eagle nests. Karen Bills, Hancock’s project co-ordinator, says three eggs have hatched in a nest near Sidney, on Vancouver Island. The first eaglet came last Wednesday, followed by a second on Friday and the third on Tuesday.

“This is better than any soap opera because you just never know what you’re going to see in these eagle nests,” Bills said.

“All three little bobble-heads, as we call them, are quite visible there on the camera.”

This is the fourth year that Hancock has been streaming the live bald eagle cam. The foundation also has cameras set up near the Vancouver suburb of Delta and on Hornby Island.closequote
